There are various different types of stretching: ballistic, dynamic, static, PNF, ... etc. If you've read my previous post about how to improve your flexibility quickly and safely, then you would have seen how the various stretches compare to each other. It may be no surprise to you that, because of its effectiveness, one of my favorite types of stretching is PNF stretching. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching is a type of stretching that involves contracting a target (TM) muscle and then bringing that muscle into a passive stretch. PNF differs from dynamic stretching, and ballistic stretching, but still uses static stretching as one of its components.
